The module POLYTRON is used to edit and create new polygon models of Descent 2,
such as robots, laser/fusion shots, missiles, reactors and the player ship.
To see what you can do with it, have a look at
Entropy 2,
a great single player collection featuring about 20 new polygon models!
POLYTRON highly cooperates with Descent Manager HAXMEDIT32.
POLYTRON was originally developed by Luke Schneider and now taken over by Heiko Herrmann
and Steve Klinger: After Luke has finished Entropy 2, Outrage has hired him for
Descent 3 (read the
full article).
To not let Polytron die, I (=Heiko Herrmann) have taken over the development
on this great polymodel-editor (same to Blocked).
So Polytron will now be integrated in the Descent Manager Tools for Win32,
which is only positive for the user: known look+feel,
shared configuration (like the directories),
and highly teamworking between Polytron and HAXMEDIT.
The time for a new era has come: Descent Manager POLYTRON32!
What is new? Well, the complete user-interface
has been revised, toolbars have been revised, new keyboard shortcuts and of course,
new/enhanced features and bugfixes. Also the new version is highly cooperative with
HAXMEDIT32 and a built-in version of PMView (!). Before you download the tool, you can
look at some screenshots here to see what you'll encounter.
Polytron32 comes with a user-manual viewable with your web-browser.
You can also read the
Polytron32 Manual online.
Here are some screenshots (click on the image to get a larger one):
 | A fully redesigned interface.
Gone are the separate view windows, resulting in much greater speed and more screen space for editing.
New to this version is the ability to run in "Singleview mode" or the familiar "Quadview mode (shown)".
The Object Browser is now a permanent fixture on the Interface and each mode has its own toolbar.
The PMV preview image is even resizeable and can be manipulated with the mouse.
|
 | The new Singleview is great for slower machines and low resolution users. You may view any of the four views in this mode and as an added feature, the ISOview has been enhanced to facilitate the selection of points and polygons. This makes this mode with the ISOview visible very handy when setting textures. We've also went to great lengths to enhance Polytron32's interface to handle low resolutions much better than in earlier versions.
|
 | No more entering texture numbers. What you see, is what you get. You now just click on the texture to use it. The global settings "First texture" and "Number of textures" are now available seperately, as this might have been confusing (as they are global for the model, not local for the current polygons as are the other settings in this dialog).
|
 | Same for the flat polygons: WYSIWYG feel to see what the resulting color will be...
|
 | To further aid in texture alignment,
you can use the mouse to modify the alignment by each individual point or the whole texture at once.
This speeds the process along greatly but you still can adjust the look of the textures by using the lower toolbar.
|
 | You can now adjust the program more to your needs.
A wide range of options (which are now saved for the next sessions)
lets you configure the program as you want...
